True Freedom Comes in Identity

Within the last month or so the reality of my identity in Christ has been on the forefront of my mind. Growing up in this world there are so many  experiences that shape us into the people that we are. At times we recognize the flaws that we may see or even hone on the differences we have with other people. As time goes along, there is a tendency to identify our lives with these perceived negatives things. The truth of the matter is when we realized that God created us for a purpose and start looking at our lives as God sees us, there is a freedom that comes to our hearts. We are wired and shaped for a reason. We need to start recognizing the things that God has made to be already. This is something that God has ignited in my life in recent months. I’ve realized that people can tend to float into a reality that is based founded in fantasy.  When one really becomes honest with oneself and starts living in truth there is a freedom that explodes on the inside.

When I mean truth. I mean truth in all areas of our lives. I firmly feel that truth should first come from our identity in Christ. When we truly find that and fully experience it in our hearts, we see that our life really is free from this world. In Romans 8, Paul talks about being transformed by the way we think. When we start thinking about who I truly am in Christ then freedom. It is recognizing that I am nothing without Christ. I am not just loved by God. He actually likes me for who I am. Growing up many feel like they aren’t really liked by people because of negative experiences in relationship(s), i.e. parental, siblings, friendships, etc. So the tendency of people is to be defined by the rejection one has faced. This is not the case all the time, but it can depend on the way experiences are perceived throughout life. However when you realize that you am truly loved and actually liked by the Creator the universe, that changes everything. Out of the overflow of that, it should really change our perception of others into how God sees them.

Also one should understand the way they are wired. Sometimes this is hard because some people don’t like to be put in boxes. However, when you really get to know who you are and how you are wired then you realize that you were created that way. Some of the things we dislike about ourselves are sometimes a struggle between being like someone else and not like ourselves. God created us for a purpose and created with personalities that reflect that. Don’t get me wrong. We are not born perfect and we will need to work on things that are part of us,  but at the same time we need embrace who we have been created to be. Insecurity is rooted lies that we have believed about God, ourselves, and others. When we live the truth of who Christ is and who we are in him, everything changes. I encourage everybody, if we could embrace this not just as an understanding in our heads but as an experience in our hearts it will bring upon incredible freedom. From there, the idea of living in truth goes into friendships and relationship(s). It is there that I have seen so much fruit in recent months and days.

I guess my final comment would be, keep firm in your identity in Christ and it will effect everything else in your life.
