There are nights like tonight when I sit here and feel like I completely wasted my entire day. I spent so much time getting dressed, time worrying about classes tomorrow, time squandered on hours of Facebook, and time spent in other meaningless pursuits. If I truly want to live a life of significance then I cannot waste my time on pointless thing, but rather identify these things and make an effort to live my life with a greater purpose in mind. The world, combined with our sinful desires are constantly hurling distractions our way and tempting us to turn away from the only thing in life that matters. Living a life with Christ is what matters. It is sin and distractions that confuse our minds into screwing with our true purpose. We need to be honest with ourselves and with those who stand in the trenches with us.
If you are living in this century then you are sure to have heard of Macklemore. He is an up and coming artist known for his brutal honesty, intense views, and passion-filled lyrics. He gives a voice to drugs, violence, sex, death, the clothes you wear, greed, parties, temptations, sexuality, pain, church oppression, and countless other issue we face in this world. These are things that can cloud our judgment and will cause heartache for many. I appreciate his honesty. Although I am not saying that I support everything that he stands for or against. And, as I am not personal friends with him I can not tell you his exact religious perspective. But, I can still admire his voice to speak up and out against key issues we face every day.
So what do the brutally honest words of this hip hop artist have to do with me or any other Christian out there? The point is that there is a lot of hard or bad things out there. So many things are constantly battling for our mind and hearts. Are we being honest with the trash that is poisoning us as we waste our time filling ourselves with mindless garbage? We must allow ourselves to openly identify our distractions and causes of our heartache and thus rid ourselves of them. We must become examples of time well spent and hearts working towards sanctification and actively filling up on the good things God has given us. Let us find the true beauty in life that is from God and carry those things on with us to eternity.
